WHAT DO PEOPLE THINK?

Special thanks to the four students who helped me with this section.

I  decided to find out what the general public's thoughts on LGBTQ marriage were, so I set out and asked four questions to see what their honest opinions were.

People's Thoughts: FAQ

HOW DO YOU FEEL LGBTQ+ MARRIAGE HAS IMPACTED SOCIETY? HAS IT IMPACTED YOU SPECIFICALLY?

Student A: I think that LGBTQ marriage has shown society that love is love. It's definitely opened up my mind in many ways.
Student B: I think that LGBTQ marriage has made a lot of minds open up for the better, including mine.
Student C: It hasn't necessarily made that good of an impact, but it's fine.
Student D: LGBTQ marriage has impacted society by making people able to love who they want without the government getting in the way. I also think it's definitely made a lot of lives easier. I personally couldn't be happier with it being legal.

DO YOU BELIEVE IN EQUAL RIGHTS FOR LGBTQ+ INDIVIDUALS? WHY OR WHY NOT?

Student A: Yes! I believe that everyone deserves human rights because you can't control your sexuality.

Student B:  LGBTQ individuals deserve as much love and respect as anyone. Who they love shouldn't determine whether or not they should get human rights.

Student C: Yes, as long as they don't shove their sexuality down people's throats.

Student D: Yes. Who someone loves should not define if they get human rights that we all deserve.

DO YOU BELIEVE THAT LGBTQ+ PEOPLE SHOULD HAVE THE RIGHT TO MARRY? WHY OR WHY NOT?

Student A: I think they should have the right to marry because that way they can spend their life with someone that they love without being afraid of the law.
Student B: Yes. I wish that it wasn't seen as a debate, because you shouldn't discriminate against someone's right to marry just because they love the same sex.
Student C: Yes.
Student D: Yes, because why would you force heterosexual relationships onto homosexuals, but not homosexual relationships onto heterosexuals. The logic of it doesn't make sense.

DO YOU THINK THAT RELIGION IS A VALID REASON FOR NOT SUPPORTING LGBTQ+ MARRIAGE RIGHTS? EXPLAIN.

Student A: No, I do not think that religion is a valid reason to be homophobic. I think that people need to realize that people are people, and people can't choose their sexuality.
Student B: Yes, as long as they don't use it against others and it doesn't have any part in making the laws.
Student C: Yes, and I think they can use that to make marriage laws.
Student D: No, because if it doesn't affect you in anyway whatsoever, why does it matter. Religion isn't an excuse for homophobia because shouldn't God love everyone? Also, religion shouldn't be involved in writing laws.
