SO WHY IS IT SO IMPORTANT TO GET MARRIED?
There are many benefits to getting married, whether you’re an LGBTQ couple or not. So many people decide to ask me why getting married is truly necessary to the LGBTQ community, and why it is viewed as such a necessary thing. There is more to marriage than just “everlasting love,” including (but not limited to) hospital visits, estate taxes, social security benefits, health insurance and finally, it’s easier to adopt a child when you’re married. Have you ever wanted to visit a friend in the hospital only to discover that you couldn’t because you aren’t family? By law, most hospitals aren’t allowed to let visitors into the patient’s room unless they’re related. This includes those who are dating because anyone could walk in and say that they were dating the injured person. There are many financial benefits, mainly ones that could save you hundreds of dollars in the long and short terms. When you’re married, you’re not required to pay an estate tax. After your spouse dies, you can transfer Social Security benefits to yourself. Health insurance is cheaper for married couples versus non-married. Finally, it’s easier to adopt a child if the agency knows that you’re married. To conclude, there’s a lot of pros to marriage, and all of them will help you out at more than one occasion in your life.
